The Veteran is ultimately responsible for his or her transportation to VA medical appointments.
There are several options for the veteran to get to their medical appointments:

  • The veteran can drive themselves or have family or a friend drive them. If they qualify, the VA will reimburse them for travel expenses.
  • Call the County Veterans Affairs Office 1 week in advance of the requested travel day 864-596-2553 or 2554.
    • Transportation to Spartanburg and Greenville VA Clinics Monday thru Friday
    • Transportation to Dorn VAMC Columbia Tuesday and Thursday Only
    • Transportation to George VAMC Asheville Monday and Wednesday Only
  • Call the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) 1 week in advance of the requested travel day. DAV only provides van service to Dorn VAMC in Columbia
  • Transportation to Dorn VAMC Columbia from the Spartanburg Clinic on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays call 864-503-5897.
  • Leave a message with your name, last 4 of your Social Security Number, telephone number, and the date and time of you appointment. Mr. William Hall is the point of contact for the Spartanburg van and he will return your call and give you a time to be at the clinic for pick up.
  • Transportation to Dorn VAMC Columbia from the Greenville Clinic on Tuesdays thru Fridays call 864-422-2962. Mr. Vernon Moon is the transportation point of contact.
  • Please be advised that the DAV vans are not wheelchair accessible. Veterans needing transportation to the Spartanburg or Greenville VA Clinic to catch the DAV van by 0730 can call the County office to arrange the local service.
  • A word of caution must be observed. If a Veteran uses the County Transportation or the DAV Transportation at no cost, the Veteran can not legally request travel funds from the VA. That action is an act of fraud and is being closely monitored by the VA. Daily lists of Veteran riders are provided to the respective VA Medical Centers.
