Disaster Animal Response Team

Mission
The mission of the Spartanburg County Disaster Animal Response Team (DART) is to promote the safety and well-being of all animals who are or may be adversely affected during a disaster and to respond to the needs of those who provide emergency and supportive care to animals during all phases of a disaster. This is accomplished in 3 ways: 1) Preparedness, 2) Awareness, and 3) Response.  Our primary response effort, in non-disaster times, are assisting the co human/pet shelters provided by Spartanburg County CERT via the Office of Emergency Management.

Overview
The DART web site’s main purpose is to keep the public educated about disaster preparedness for their animal family members, and to keep the public informed before, during, and after a disaster. In addition, while on our journey to educate and prepare we hope to interest some of our existing CERT members into volunteering to strengthen and expand our DART program.  Any DART member must complete Basic CERT training before becoming a DART volunteer.

Volunteering and Preparedness
Just like children, the animals in our community will be depending on us more than ever, if a disaster occurs. They ask so little and give us so much so please don’t leave it up to chance. Prepare now, spread the word and try to donate a few hours by volunteering with Spartanburg DART and/or the Spartanburg Humane Society.

Animal Assistance
If animals are in need of help either in a disaster or emergency please contact the Spartanburg Humane Society or Spartanburg County Environmental Enforcement. These organizations are here to help you and many animals in a variety of different situations and if appropriate they will contact DART for further assistance.
