Public Health and Human Services Committee

The Public Health and Human Services Committee of Spartanburg County Council met on Monday, September 11, 2000, in Conference Room Two of the County Administrative Office Building. The following were in attendance: Honorable Johnnye Code Stewart, Chair; Honorables Ken Huckaby and Jeff Horton, Committee members; along with the Honorables Karen Floyd, Frank Nutt, Rock Adams, and David Britt, Council Members. Also in attendance were Mr. James Hartmann, County Administrator; Mr. Bill Dennis, Deputy County Administrator; Mr. Glenn Breed, Assistant County Administrator; and Roy Smith, County Attorney.

In compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, notice of this meeting was provided in advance to the local news media and other interested parties.

Chairman Stewart called the meeting to order.

    1. Ms. Cheryl Harleston from the City of Spartanburg appeared along with Dr. Joyce Miller, Chairman of the Human Relations Commission. Dr. Miller stated that the Human Relations Commission responds whenever the need arises in Spartanburg County, and has for the past 30 years. On two occasions in the past, County Council has contributed funds for this program. County Council appoints 11 of the 25 members of the Commission. The Commission is requesting that Council consider funding them on a regular basis. Mr. Hartmann stated that council will need to review this request, as well as other requests that have been made, to determine if it will be a part of the budget or will be handled as a grant request. No action taken.
