Recreation Committee
September 11, 2000
The Recreation Committee of Spartanburg County Council met on Monday, September 11, 2000, in Conference Room Two of the County Administrative Office Building. In compliance with the Freedom of Information Act, notice of this meeting was provided in advance to the local news media and other interested parties. The following were in attendance: Honorable Jeff Horton, Chairman; Honorables Johnnye Code Stewart and Rock Adams, Members; along with the Honorables Karen Floyd, David Britt, Ken Huckaby and Frank Nutt, Council members. Also in attendance were James K. Hartmann, County Administrator; Bill Dennis, Deputy County Administrator; Glenn Breed, Assistant County Administrator; and Roy McBee Smith, County Attorney.
- Chairman Horton called the meeting to order.
- Mr. Jeff Caton advised Council that Representative Brenda Lee, City Councilwoman Linda Dogan, and County Councilwoman Johnnye Code Stewart have worked with neighborhood groups to look at the relocation of the Cleveland Park Basketball Courts. Three feasible locations have been evaluated. Mr. Caton stated that the parking area of the fairgrounds across from Cleveland Elementary School is the preferred site. This site is within walking distance of Cleveland Elementary School and is a reasonable distance from residential areas. Mr. Caton proposes three fenced and lighted courts, a drinking fountain and restroom facilities. This item tabled to give Ms. Stewart and Ms. Dogan an opportunity to visit the site.
- Mr. Jeff Caton provided a progress report on the Cleveland Park Renovation. No action taken.
