SPARTANBURG COUNTY MAN RECEIVES 60-YEAR SENTENCE FOR SEX ASSAULTS
A Spartanburg County man received a 60-year prison sentence today for sexually abusing two young girls.
Ronnie Eugene Harris, 56, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. Circuit Judge Mark Hayes issued consecutive 30-year prison sentences. Harris must also register as a sex offender.
The assaults occurred on multiple occasions between Oct.1, 2005 and Jan. 20, 2006 in southern Spartanburg County. The victims were 5 and 7 years old at the time of the assaults and Harris was a friend of the family. Harris picked the children up at the bus stop after school and assaulted them in the hours before their parents came home from work.
The victims described Harris’ sexual advances to a forensic examiner with the Children’s Advocacy Center. The children also said Harris showed them books which contained photos of naked men and women having sex.
Harris initially denied any wrongdoing but he changed his story after he took a polygraph test. He described the sex acts in detail and he admitted to exposing the children to the books in a written statement witnessed by sheriff’s deputies.
“Today’s sentence will ensure that our community’s children are protected from this dangerous sexual predator,” Assistant Solicitor Susan Reese said. “He violated their innocence and their trust.”
