STARTEX MAN RECEIVES 20-YEAR PRISON SENTENCE FOR SEX ASSAULT

A Startex man received a 20-year prison sentence today for sexually assaulting a child.

Brian Keith Griffin, 35, pleaded guilty to second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor. He admitted to fondling a young girl on multiple occasions over a two-year period that ended in July 2008 when the crime was reported to the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office. The girl was 13-years-old at the time of the police report. Griffin admitted to sexual assaults during an interview with deputies. Further evidence was collected when the victim underwent a forensic examination at the Children’s Advocacy Center. Assistant Solicitor Jennifer Jordan prosecuted the case.

Griffin will serve 85 percent of the prison sentence before he is eligible for release. He will also have his name added to the Sex Offender Registry.
