GAFFNEY MAN RECEIVES 30-YEAR SENTENCE FOR FATAL SHOOTING

A Gaffney man received a 30-year prison sentence today for shooting his girlfriend to death during a domestic dispute.

Kenyal Rodgers, 30, pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter and possession of a weapon during the commission of a crime. Rodgers shot 33-year-old Latica Scott to death in her Cherokee Avenue home in January of 2008. Cherokee County deputies took Rodgers into custody a short time after the death.

“The plea will hopefully create some closure for Latica Scott’s family,” Assistant Solicitor Michael Morin said. “They can rest easier knowing they will not have to deal with the stress of a jury trial.”

Rodgers will serve 85 percent of the prison sentence before he is eligible for release.
