CHESNEE MAN SENTENCED TO 35 YEARS
IN PRISON FOR STABBING WIFE TO DEATH
A Chesnee man received a 35-year prison sentence today
after he told a judge that he stabbed his wife to death in the driveway
of the home they once shared.
Mitchell Eugene Wall, 40, of 1800 Sandy Ford Road, pleaded guilty
to murder hours before prosecutors planned to try him for killing
Sheri Wall, 43. The guilty plea was straight up with no negotiation
or recommendation from prosecutors.
The couple was separated and in the process of getting a divorce when
the killing occurred on the morning of April 15.
Mitchell Wall repeatedly stabbed Sheri Wall in her back and neck moments
after she asked him to sign some tax papers.
Spartanburg County sheriff’s deputies found the body about 9:10
a.m. in the back seat of her Jeep. Two knives with Sheri Wall’s
blood on them were found inside the vehicle. After the stabbing, Mitchell
Wall went inside and took a shower. He called his mother and a friend
and he told them what he had done. The friend reported the incident
to police.
Mitchell Wall didn’t personally report the incident to police.
He made no effort to help his wife in the 10-15 minute time period
that she bled to death.
Mitchell Wall greeted Deputy John Hudson when he pulled his police
cruiser in the driveway of the Chesnee-area home.
Mitchell Wall told Hudson that he got into a little dispute with his
wife.
Hudson found the body in the jeep.
During the guilty plea, Solicitor Trey Gowdy played a video of the
exchange between Hudson and Wall. A camera in Hudson’s patrol
car recorded the conversation.
During interviews with deputies, Mitchell Wall repeatedly admitted
his guilt. He told investigators that he committed the murder because
he was tired of listening to her.
At the time of his arrest, Mitchell Wall had two domestic violence
convictions on Sheri. A third domestic violence charge was pending
at the time of her death.
Mitchell Wall will have to serve every day of the prison sentence.
